This is the place where you can see the main and most important stats, like the number of page views in the last week, actions taken on your page, post reach, new page likes and more. This section is great if you quickly want to see a summary of the engagement on your page. You can also change the seven-day default option, after which you can see the new statistics of your page from today, yesterday, or the last 28 days.
Other than the Overview section, there are more than ten other sections like Ads, Followers, Likes and Reach. Let’s explain what each of those sections contains and why each of them is useful, so you know how to use Facebook Insights more effectively.
This is the part of Insights that’ll show you the number of your followers at this moment, where you can also find a graphical representation of your total followers (both organic and paid) in any time frame you select. In the Followers section, you can also see the number of people who unfollowed your page in any given day.
Similarly to the Followers section, here you can find the number of your page’s likes and unlikes, and you can also see where the likes came from (search, news feed, page suggestions, etc).
In this section you can find quite useful information about your posts. For the time period you select at the top of the page, you can see your posts’ reach, which is the number of people who had seen or scrolled through your posts. You can also find out the number of people who recommended your posts in other posts and comments.
In the Page Views section, you will find out the number of your total page views or page views by section (home, posts, about, photos, videos, etc.). Here you can analyze your audience by showing the page views by age and gender, country, device or some other options. In this section, you can see the source of your page views (where people came from to see your Facebook page) which can be quite useful for marketers.
This section is very similar to the previous one, the difference being that here you’ll see stats of the number of people who had seen a page preview of your Facebook page.
Actions on Page
Facebook has given us the option to set an action button that our visitors can then click on and get more information about the thing they’re interested in. The button can take your followers to your website or your Facebook store, show them a map for directions to your location, give them your contact information, or something else, you get the gist. Here you’ll find the number of people who took such an action, separated by age, gender, country, etc.
This might be the most useful section of Facebook Insights, or at least the most interesting one. When you open the Posts section, you’ll first see graphs of when your fans are online. This can be quite useful since it shows you the exact days when many of your followers are online, but also in which specific hours of that day. On one of my pages, you can clearly see that most of my audience is online from 8 am to 10 am, so that’s the perfect time for me to publish a post.
Below the graph, you can see the reach, post clicks, reactions, comments and shares for each of your posts. There is another tab in this section, where you can see the same stats of your posts, but grouped by the type of posts, so you can find out what your fans prefer to see and engage with.
There are three tabs in this section – Your Fans, Your Followers and People Reached. For each of them, you can find demographic data grouped by country, city, and language. So if you go to the People Reached tab, you’ll see how many people from Nashville, Tennessee had seen or scrolled through your posts. This can be quite useful for local businesses based on one location.
There are other sections as well, like the new and updated sections for Events and Ads. They open in another tab and are great for businesses that publish ads or events more frequently. Videos, Stories, and Messages are the other sections available in Insights, and there you’ll find additional stats for those topics.
