How to Post to a Facebook Page in Two Languages

A guide for international companies.

Ever since our launch on Producthunt in April, Amplifr has been an international company. That’s why we post to social media in both Russian and English. We have our separate Russian blog, a Twitter, and a few other Russian social pages, since we started in Russia and most of our clients speak Russian. However, we don’t have a separate Facebook Page. It turns out, you can post to one page—in different languages, and target your posts so that the Russian-speakers won’t see your English content and vice versa.

Here’s how to make a multilanguage page:

Go to Page Settings from the page or Business Manager. Check these two boxes: “News Feed Audience and Visibility for Posts” and “Post in Multiple Languages”.

After that, a Targeting Settings icon appears in the publication field.

You can set different Restrictions to narrow the post Audience now. For example, you can set a Language restriction—that’s what we’re looking for now.

A Page Administrator sees all the posts on their page and can check the Audience restrictions for every post.

We made both posts mentioned above with Amplifr. That’s way faster than having to set the restrictions manually every time. To publish for the English-speaking audience, we’ve added lang: en  before the text. For Russian-speakers, that was lang: ru . Here’s what it looked like in Amplifr.

  • Language restrictions only work in Amplifr if you’ve already checked the two settings we mentioned above.
  • You can target posts in Groups and Pages, but not on personal pages.
  • Facebook API allows scheduling one post at a time from the same window. To post in two different languages schedule the posts with a couple of minutes difference.

Try scheduling a post in two languages! If you do so, feel free to hit us up to tell about your experience.
